CFAR — Cancel for any reason coverage
An optional cancellation benefit that allows a traveler to cancel for a reason not already covered by a standard travel insurance policy.
Also called: CFAR
Illustrative example
Illustrative example: a traveler no longer wants to take a planned flight from Minneapolis (MSP) to Paris (CDG) for a personal reason outside the standard policy’s covered reasons. A purchased CFAR benefit may reimburse part of the eligible costs if its timing and other conditions are met.
Context
Refunds can be partial, and purchase and cancellation deadlines apply under the benefit’s terms. The New York regulator describes CFAR benefits as distinct from insurance under New York law.
