Positioning flight
A flight taken to reach the airport where the main itinerary begins.
Illustrative example
Illustrative example: a Minneapolis traveler has an Air France award itinerary starting at Washington Dulles (IAD) for Paris (CDG), and separately books United from Minneapolis (MSP) to Dulles. The United flight positions the traveler for the main itinerary. This is an invented booking arrangement, not current service, availability or a connection-protection guarantee.
