KTN — Known Traveler Number

An identifier issued to someone approved for TSA PreCheck expedited screening, entered in the Known Traveler Number field of an airline reservation.

Also called: KTN

Illustrative example

Example booking scenario: a traveler booking Minneapolis (MSP) to Seattle (SEA) enters their own KTN in the reservation. It is their traveler-program identifier, rather than the booking reference or ticket number.

Context

For Global Entry members, the CBP PASSID serves as the Known Traveler Number; the membership card alone does not provide access to TSA PreCheck lanes.
