US nonimmigrant visa

A U.S. visa used to apply for entry for a temporary purpose, such as visiting or studying, in the relevant nonimmigrant category.

Hypothetically, a traveler planning a temporary visit involving a flight from Paris (CDG) to New York (JFK) uses a visitor visa to apply for entry.

Context

The visa does not guarantee admission or set the final permitted stay; CBP determines admission and its conditions at the port of entry.
